"College, superheroes, what could go wrong?"
Momentum is growing for 'The Boys' college spinoff series, as the title has now been revealed to be 'Gen V'.
The title was revealed by the new cast on set. Jaz Sinclair, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Lizze Broadway, Chance Perdomo, London Thor, Asa Germann, Maddie Phillips, and Derek Luh all featured in the announcement video.
The title is a mix of the younger Gen Z demographic and Compound V, the drug used by Vought to create Supes in the original show.
In the video, cast members described the show, saying it has "everything 'The Boys' has; the intensity, the grit, the humour."
Perdomo also summarised it very succinctly by saying, "It's fucked up, you're gonna like it."
'Gen V' is described as an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. It’s part college show, part 'Hunger Games'— with all the heart, satire, and raunch of 'The Boys'.
Not featured in the announcement video but also starring in the show are Shelley Conn, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Marco Pigossi.
In May, Eric Kripke, showrunner of 'The Boys' confirmed that the series was in production. "It's been a long, winding process but I hope people like it as much as I like it. It's a really smart, funny, insane show. Totally different than 'The Boys', but it's completely within that world and tone."
Kripke previously told EW he wanted to make a realistic college show containing supes. "We got really interested in, 'Wouldn't it be great if we could take superheroes and make one of the most realistic college shows that's ever been made?' Because they're not made very often."
We're still waiting on release window for the show. Hopefully more announcements come soon.
