The Boys are going to college
After scheduling issues led to some cast members for the new live-action spin-off of Prime Video's 'The Boys', the show is now back on track.
Production started last week and the new cast members include London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, and Shelley Conn. Following the success of season two of 'The Boys', Prime announced that a spinoff set in a Vought college would be getting made.
The show is described as an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. It’s part college show, part 'Hunger Games'— with all the heart, satire, and raunch of 'The Boys'.
In March 2022, Aimee Carrero and Shane Paul McGhie left their leading roles, citing scheduling issues. A month later, Reina Hardesty also left her lead role due to scheduling conflicts. That left remaining series regulars Lizze Broadway, Jaz Sinclair, Maddie Phillips, and Chance Perdomo.
Eric Kripke, showrunner of 'The Boys' confirmed that the series was now in production with new cast members added. "It's been a long, winding process but I hope people like it as much as I like it. It's a really smart, funny, insane show. Totally different than 'The Boys', but it's completely within that world and tone."
Kripke previously told EW he wanted to make a realistic college show containing supes. "We got really interested in, 'Wouldn't it be great if we could take superheroes and make one of the most realistic college shows that's ever been made?' Because they're not made very often."
Executive producers for the project include Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, and Pavun Shetty.
Meanwhile, the third season of the original series is primed for release next month, with loads of news coming out about what to expect. With the spinoff confirmed, there's plenty of content to tide fans of the franchise over for the months to come.
'The Boys' season 3 lands on Prime Video on June 3.
