Well, this is garbage water
According to the series showrunner, should the comedy continue past season three, there would be a new cast.
Apple TV+'s 'Ted Lasso' might be wrapping things up and ending after the release of season three. The comedy series, which recently won big at the Emmy Awards, has become increasingly popular over the past year thanks to the comedic timing of its cast as well as its general feel-good nature.
However, the series showrunner Bill Lawrence ('Scrubs', 'Couger Town') has said that should the series continue after season three, there will be an all-new cast. Except for Jason Sudeikis' Ted of course, whom the series couldn't continue without.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Lawrence said: "[W]hen we started, we plotted out everybody’s beginning, middle and end of a three-season arc. This story is going to be over next year, regardless, even if the show finds another story to tell and goes on."
Lawrence is the series showrunner and co-creator, developing the series with Sudeikis from a character created for a number of sports-related TV adverts. The first series, which launched in 2020, saw Lasso, an American football coach, be recruited to take over the reins at AFC Richmond, an English Premier League football team. Season two continued this storyline of the American adjusting to British lifestyle and humour, while he also juggled his family life and dealt with problems within his team.
Should the series continue past the third season, it seems likely that the story arcs of Nate (Nick Mohammed), Roy (Brett Goldstein), Keely (Juno Temple), Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) and the rest of the supporting cast will be wrapped up, allowing for new characters to enter into the fold.
'Ted Lasso' has won seven Emmy Awards, including a Lead Actor nod for Jason Sudeikis as the ever-chipper Lasso, and Hannah Waddingham who received an award for Best Supporting Actress. Season two was also crowned Apple TV+'s beggest-ever series launch on the streaming service.
Season three of 'Ted Lasso' will be released in 2022.
