Get ready for the longest season ever
We might not have had much 'Stranger Things' in our lives for the past three years, but The Duffer Brothers are certainly attempting to make up for that extra-long sabbatical by releasing longer-than-average episodes.
Get ready for the long haul, as the 'Stranger Things' season four finale will be more than two-hours long. Essentially, we're getting a super-duper-long mammoth of episodes this season. Which is great news, right? RIGHT?!
Yes, it really is. It's been nearly three years since season three of the '80s fantasy/horror launched on Netflix, with season four becoming delayed for the past couple of years. In an effort to prolong our wait, however, season four will be split into two parts - Volume One on May 27, followed by Volume Two on July 1.
But it's not all indifferent news - the episodes this time around are going to be incredibly long. Consisting of nine episodes in total, which is the longest of any season thus far, all of the 'Stranger Things' season four episodes will clock in at over one hour apiece. Further cementing its longevity this time around, we've heard that the season finale will be a bumper edition, running at over 120 minutes in length.
So now we know why this season cost so much...
Season creators The Duffer Brothers revealed the news to The Wrap. Asked if they knew the season would be this long, they said: "No. A lot of it had to do with the fact that we had characters spread out in three locations and we had a lot more plot. It must be quadruple the plot we had in season three.
"That was our fun blockbuster season. This season we knew that season five was going to be our last, we had to start revealing a lot.
"The more we were writing, the more we realized we need more time in order for these reveals to land, in order for these storylines to work. Partway through we knew we needed to ask Netflix for nine episodes instead of eight and as we started shooting we realized, Oh these are mega-long episodes."
"Seven and nine, in particular, are movies," Matt Duffer said. "And nine is a long movie."
When asked how long the 'Stranger Things' finale for season four will be, Ross Duffer said: "We’re still refining it but we will say that it is over two hours. It’s a big one."
entertainment.ie has already watched all four episodes of Volume One (three of which are 75 minutes in length), so expect our review to hit the site very soon.
