It'll only be familiar faces going forward
Don't expect to see many new faces in the final season, as it's only going to be our already very established 'Stranger Things' family.
According to co-creators The Duffer Brothers, the fifth and final season of 'Stranger Things' won't be featuring any new characters. And to be honest, that's probably good news considering that we're still recovering from the late, great Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) biting the dust during the season four climax.
The Netflix series, aside from the nostalgia factor and the mystery of it all, has always shined the brightest in terms of character development. We all have our fan favourites that would be devastating to see not make it out alive (BARB!), but even the characters that were introduced to the series later in the game (Sadie Sink's Max, Maya Hawke's Robin and the aforementioned Munson) all have become integral to the plot and to our overall experience of the show.
When asked by IndieWire about their plans for 'Stranger Things' season five, The Duffer Brothers admitted that new characters probably won't be introduced because the focus will be on the main ones that we already know and love.
Ross Duffer said: "Whenever we introduce a new character, we want to make sure that they’re going to be an integral part of the narrative. So that’s something with Eddie this season, where we go, 'Well, we need a character here for this storyline to really work, and to give it the engine that is needed.'
"But every time we do that, we’re nervous, because you go, 'We’ve got a great cast of characters here, and actors, and any moment we’re spending with a new character, we’re taking time away from one of the other actors.' So we’re just very, very careful about who we’re introducing."
Matt added: "We’re doing our best to resist [adding new characters] for season five. We’re trying not to do that so we can focus on the OG characters, I guess."
'Stranger Things' season four ended on a pretty big cliffhanger, with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and co finally all back together and looking out at a Hawkins that was reeling from the devastation caused by Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower).
Expect more word on how season five will be shaping up in the near future. For now, all four seasons can be streamed on Netflix.
