"We are completely disconnected... but we are also together."
Although 'Star Trek: Discovery' has had a rocky start for itself, the second season was a vast improvement and far more cohesive.
In fact, if you go back and look at the opening seasons of 'The Next Generation' or 'Deep Space Nine', it always takes a couple of seasons for a show to find its feet. Even the industry term is called "growing the beard" and it comes from Riker's beard growing in from the second and third season on.
If this trailer for Season 3 of 'Star Trek: Discovery' is anything to go by, it looks like its beard is growing in nice and full. In fact, Sonnequa Martin-Green's character - Michael Burnham - has a brand-new hairstyle, so maybe that's reminiscent of it? Who knows.
Anyway, the final episode of last season saw the crew of the Discovery, along with Michael Burnham in the time-travel suit, flung into the far future of 3188, far beyond any future that 'Star Trek' has covered so far.
As we can see in the trailer, things aren't quite as rosy in 3188, with the Federation having collapsed after a galaxy-wide event called "the burn", and the crew of the Discovery attempting to repair their ship and help where they can in the future.
The trailer plays at the very beginning of the panel discussion for yesterday's Star Trek Day, with the cast and crew talking after the trailer about what's in store for the new season.
Take a look. 'Star Trek: Discovery' Season 3 lands on Netflix on October 16th.
