The Netflix series is based on Bong Joon-Ho's 2014 sci-fi hit.
Although it's been in development for nearly three years, 'Snowpiercer' is finally a reality and is on its way to Netflix.
Based on Bong Joon-Ho's 2014 sci-fi hit of the same the name, 'Snowpiercer' is set inside a massive train set that's hurtling across post-apocalyptic Earth that's begun freezing after ecological collapse.
The rich are towards the front of the train, living in splendour and opulence, while those at the rear are struggling to survive in treacherous and squalid conditions. Jennifer Connelly plays Melanie Cavill, a first-class passenger and described as the Voice of the Train, who makes regular PA announcements about the train's condition and is fascinated by those living in the rear of the train. Daveed Diggs, who people will know from 'Hamilton', 'The Getdown' and 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' plays Layton Well, who is a drug addict that becomes involved in a growing struggle to upend the order of things on the train.
The original movie was based in part on a French graphic novel series, and it looks like the TV series will take more inspiration from that than Bong Joon-ho's movie - which is no bad thing, to be honest. For one, 'Snowpiercer' was a one-of-a-kind thing and it'd be hard to replicate it. Not only that, Bong-Joon Ho isn't involved in this, so it's definitely going to look and feel different.
The series kicks off on May 25th on Netflix, and a second season has already been commissioned.
