If you happen to be staying home from Electric Picnic and you've no interest in today's All-Ireland Hurling Final, there's a good chance you're listlessly scrolling through Netflix looking for something to watch.
That's where we come in. Netflix has recently added a few new titles and we've picked out six movies you definitely should check out.
6. MEN IN BLACK
Forget the poor sequels, the original is a blast and Will Smith is at his most charming and naturally funny. Top that off with Tommy Lee Jones' incredible deadpan humour, some excellent special effects that still hold up, and a cracking script and you've got the perfect Sunday movie.
5. TRIPLE 9
We reviewed Triple 9 back during its initial release, and called it "a rip-roaring heist thriller", and that's pretty much as it stands. Chiwetel Ejiofor plays a mercenary who's being blackmailed by Russian mob boss Kate Winslet to perform a series of increasingly dangerous heists, with Casey Affleck playing a central role in the investigation. Think Training Day meets Heat.
4. BLEED FOR THIS
Although most people will think of Miles Teller either as the guy from Whiplash or (shudder) Fantastic Four, Bleed For This is something of an overlooked piece. Playing the real-life boxer Vinny 'Paz' Pazienza - who suffered a career-ending injury and fought his way back into boxing - Teller gives a stellar performance, with strong support from Ciaran Hinds and Aaron Eckhart.
3. KILL BILL VOL.1 AND VOL.2
For our money, Kill Bill was Uma Thurman's last, great performance and a reminder that David Carradine never got the praise he deserved for his work. Seriously, if this film was released now, you'd be talking about a Best Supporting Actor gong for his performance as Bill. Great soundtrack, expertly staged action, instantly quotable - it's one of Tarantino's finest works.
2. MAMA
What with all the hype surrounding Stephen King's It, director Andy Muscietti's debut English-language film plays more like a supernatural drama than a straight-up horror. Jessica Chastain and Game of Thrones' Nikolaj Coster-Waldau both give strong performances, but it's the special effects behind the titular character that really make the film.
1. BOYZ N THE HOOD
If you've never watched John Singleton's engrossing and hugely affecting social drama, now's your chance. Sure, some of the music and fashion might be severely outdated, but Laurence Fishburne, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Ice Cube's performances are among the best in their career. Definitely worth checking out.
