The brothers would be renowned for directing 'Avengers: Infinity War' and 'Endgame'
A new series is headed to Netflix which could replace the 'Game of Thrones'-sized hole in our hearts.
Joe and Anthony Russo are taking a breather from the MCU as they embark on a new project with Netflix.
Together with Wizards of The Coast, and Hasbro’s Allspark Animation, they're creating a 'Magic: The Gathering' animated TV series.
The Russos are executive producers on the series. They'll oversee the creation of an all new storyline and expand on the stories of the Planeswalkers, which are Magic’s magic-wielding heroes and villains.
The brothers, who have directed Marvel movies 'Captain America: Winter Soldier,' 'Civil War,' 'Avengers: Infinity War' and 'Endgame', said:
“We have been huge fans and players of Magic: The Gathering for as long as it has been around, so being able to help bring these stories to life through animation is a true passion project for us.”
Richard Garfield created The Magic: The Gathering collectible card game, which hit shelves in 1993. Since then, the game has spawned a digital game, esports league, comic book series, and a best-selling novel.
Henry Gilroy ('Star Wars: The Clone Wars') and Jose Molina ('Agent Carter') serve as lead writers and co-exec producers on the Netflix anime series.
Sources say in the long term, the desire is to expand the series into a larger franchise featuring multiple series. This would be similar to the streamer's former Marvel, now cancelled, shows.
An episode order and length of each installment has yet to be determined. No official title, cast, or premiere date has been announced either.
