We'll have to wait a bit longer to see the droid make a comeback
Aside from 'The Mandalorian', one of the earlier 'Star Wars' series to get the green light at Disney+ was 'Andor'.
The show is based on Diego Luna’s Rebel Cassian Andor who appeared in 'Rogue One'.
While Felicity Jones won't be reprising her role of Jyn Erso in the series, fans were waiting on the word for whether K-2SO would make a return.
Voiced by Alan Tudyk, K-2SO was a reprogrammed Imperial droid and Andor's sidekick in the 'Star Wars Story'.
Tudyk himself has now confirmed the character won't make an appearance in 'Andor', at least initially.
He slipped the news while talking with Collider editor-in-chief Steve Weintraub for his new Syfy series 'Resident Alien'.
But the actor could make an appearance later.
"They're shooting it right now, I'm not in it. But, if it stays on the air, stories keep getting told, I'll end up in there," he said.
Regarding his appearance at the D23 Expo in 2019, which appeared to confirm his involvement, Tudyk said: "I'm all these announcements for the show, and I had suggested at D23 when we announced in the show, that it be called 'K2 Fast K2 Furious: The Cassian Andor Series' and, um, that's not happening, it's called 'Andor'!"
Tudyk performs the character as well as providing the voice.
He expressed some concerns: "I do know this: I have to be on stilts for it, because the character is 7'1, and I'm not one of those guys that says, ‘somebody else do the motion capture, and I'll voice it later’.
"I'll have to do the motion capture, and I turn 50 in March. So I hope they get to it soon, because I'm not going to be on stilts in, like, five years. I'm not doing it!"
The actor indicated that like 'The Mandalorian', 'Andor' will be an ongoing series with future seasons planned.
He also seemed positive that the story of how K-2SO and Andor became allies will make it into the series, later.
He said: "I'm going to be in the show. It's just that the story that [creator and 'Rogue One' co-writer] Tony [Gilroy] is telling doesn't involve K-2SO until later on... I can't be too specific, but I can definitely say that I'm not going to be in the first season."
'Andor' is scheduled to be released in 2022.
