The news comes less than a week after season 1 debuted

Good news for fans of 'Reacher', which debuted on Amazon Prime last Friday. It has already been renewed for new episodes.

Alan Ritchson plays Jack Reacher, the protagonist of Lee Child's popular book series which the show is based on.

The figure is a veteran military police investigator who has just recently reentered civilian life. He's a drifter and something of a survivalist, only carrying bare essentials and no phone.

Upon entering the small town of Margrave, Georgia, he immediately comes under suspicion of a recent homicide that has shaken the community.

Season 1 is based on Child's first Jack Reacher novel 'Killing Floor', which was published in 1997.

Also in the cast are Malcolm Goodwin, Willa Fitzgerald, Chris Webster, Hugh Thompson, Maria Sten, Harvey Guillén, Kristin Kreuk, Currie Graham, Marc Bendavid, Willie C. Carpenter, Maxwell Jenkins, and Bruce McGill.

Nick Santora penned the series.

Per Amazon, 'Reacher' became one of their top five most-watched shows in the U.S. and globally over a 24-hour period.

Exact viewing figures were not released.

Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said: "The phenomenal debut of 'Reacher' is a testament to Lee Child’s creation of one of entertainment’s most well-known heroes, Nick Santora’s original approach to the storytelling, Alan’s brilliant embodiment of the character, and the dedication of the talented people who worked tirelessly in front of and behind the camera to make such an undeniably bingeworthy series.

"The global impact of 'Reacher' makes it one of Prime Video’s biggest series debuts, and we can’t wait to bring fans a second season of their new favorite show."
