Ewan McGregor voices Jiminy Cricket among the all-star cast
Two versions of 'Pinocchio' are in the works at the moment, the other a live-action remake of Disney's 1940 animated film; but we'll be getting this version first!
Based on the Carlo Collodi children's novel, this upcoming iteration of 'Pinocchio' comes from the Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro.
Del Toro is known for such films as 'The Shape of Water', 'Pan's Labyrinth' and 'Nightmare Alley', which is now showing in cinemas.
He's assembled an all-star cast to lend their voices to the stop-motion animated, musical feature.
Newcomer Gregory Mann voices Pinocchio while Ewan McGregor voices Sebastian J. Cricket and David Bradley plays Gepetto.
Other cast members in unconfirmed roles include: Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman, Finn Wolfhard, and Cate Blanchett.
The adaptation is set in Italy during the 1930s, a time when fascism is on the rise and Benito Mussolini is establishing rule of the country.
This first look at 'Pinocchio' sees McGregor voice Cricket as the character teases what we're about to see.
He informs us that he's going to tell us what really happened, and that he knows because he "was there" and "actually lived in the heart of the wooden boy."
Check it out.
'Pinocchio' starts streaming on Netflix in December 2022.
