The fashion series is on the Netflix chopping block
Tan France and Alexa Chung's first fashion series on the streaming service will not be returning in the future.
'Next in Fashion' is cancelled on Netflix after just one season, and serves as the latest series to be axed by the streaming giant this year. Hosted by model and designer Alexa Chung, and one of the Fab Five from 'Queer Eye' in Tan France, the fashion competition has failed to live another day.
On the show, 18 contestants competed for a huge $250,000 cash prize, and an opportunity to debut their collection with luxury fashion retailer Net-a-Porter. Maybe if Netflix reduced the cash prize, the series might have hung around a little big longer.
Host France told Variety: "We’re not doing a second a season. This is a one-season show, we don’t know what will happen in the future. But it was honestly one of the proudest things I’ve ever worked on. I love the show and Alexa so much. My focus is definitely on ‘Queer Eye’ and moving forward with that."
The fashion series had a high production value, and with two recognisable faces from the world of fashion attached to it, it wouldn't have come cheap. Add to that the guest judges that included Christopher Kane, Adriana Lima, Beth Ditto from band Gossip, and Tommy Hilfiger himself, and Netflix were surely going all-in on this being a success.
The series also faced competition from Amazon Prime's rival fashion series 'Making the Cut' with Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn, which may have saturated the genre.
The competitive show is just one of the latest Netflix series to not return after their first season. 'Messiah', 'Spinning Out', 'V Wars', 'October Faction' and 'AJ and the Queen' have all been dropped this year.
However, Tan France is back on our Netflix screens from today as 'Queer Eye' season five returns - read our review of the series here.
