The Birdman will never stop
A new documentary which focuses on the life and career of professional skater Tony Hawk is coming to NOW on April 6.
Hawk is known as one of the pioneers of modern skateboarding and is credited as the man who brought it to the mainstream. Mainly competing on a vertical pipe, Hawk gained worldwide attention when he became the first person to complete a '900' - a two and a half rotational mid-air spin in 1999.
Hawk also has a string of successful computer games named after him, in particular 'Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2' released in 2000, which remains the best-reviewed PlayStation video game of all time.
The documentary will cover the 53-year-old's life through interviews and cover his start in the industry as well as his work throughout his career. It promises to give an intimate look into Hawk’s relationship with the sport.
The film will feature skateboarders such as Stacy Peralta, Andy MacDonald and Rodney Mullen. It is directed by Sam Jones with Mark Duplass, Jay Duplass and Mel Eslyn serving as executive producers.
Yesterday sucked. I broke my elbow 20 years ago and managed to make a full comeback; this broken femur recovery will take longer but I’m up for the challenge.
Strangely ironic that it happened on the eve of @HBO releasing a trailer for “Until The Wheels Fall Off,” @samjones’ doc pic.twitter.com/xeVwwtQjVb— Tony Hawk (@tonyhawk) March 9, 2022
Unfortunately for Hawk though, he severely broke his femur yesterday. It looks like he'll have a long road to recovery before he can stage a comeback on four wheels.
He is, however, due to make an appearance in Dublin this July, as part of his 'An Evening With..' tour. Hopefully a broken leg won't get in the way of that.
