David Fincher's 'Mank', Will Ferrell's 'Eurovision', plus loads more to come.
In a lengthy Twitter thread last night, Netflix announced its slate of original movies for the coming year, with some new and unexpected entries on the table.
All in all, some 29 movies were announced by Netflix in the thread, including a few sequels and some already announced by Netflix last year. The big ones out of the list include David Fincher's 'Mank', Spike Lee's 'Da 5 Bloods', and sequels to 'To All The Boys I've Loved' and 'The Kissing Booth'.
One of the most interesting movies announced is 'Rebecca', a new adaptation of Daphne du Maurier's novel that will be directed by Ben Wheatley and star Lily James and Armie Hammer. Wheatley is best known for directing horror-thriller 'Kill List', twisted satire 'High-Rise' and the '70s crime-comedy 'Free Fire' with Cillian Murphy, Armie Hammer and Brie Larson.
As mentioned, David Fincher's 'Mank' looks like it could well be Netflix's Oscar vehicle for 2021. Focusing on the production of Orson Welles' 'Citizen Kane' from the perspective of its screenwriter, Herman J. Mankiewicz, who battled with Welles for the screenwriting credit. The script for the movie itself was written by Jack Fincher, David Fincher's father, who passed away in 2003.
Among the cast includes Gary Oldman in the title role, 'Game of Thrones' alum Charles Dance, Amanda Seyfried, Lily Collins and Tom Burke as Orson Welles.
