The sci-fi series ended on a pretty big cliffhanger

It was a series that divided many people, considering the fairly bonkers tangent that the first season went off on - but there's no denying that 'The OA' found a loyal audience.

However, with its second season debuting in March this year, Netflix have now cancelled the sci-fi/supernatural series.

The show, which followed self-dubbed 'OA' ('Original Angel') Prairie Johnson in her quest to discover who she is after reemerging with unusual powers after being missing for seven years, was largely well-received by critics.

"We are incredibly proud of the 16 mesmerizing chapters ofย The OA, and are grateful to Brit [Marling, star and co-creator] and [executive producer and co-creator] Zal [Batmanglij] for sharing their audacious vision and for realizing it through their incredible artistry," they said in a statement released yesterday.ย "We look forward to working with them again in the future, in this and perhaps many other dimensions."

Fans, meanwhile, are not particularly happy about the news - especially considering how Season 2 ended on a pretty big cliffhanger...
