It's finally happening
'Luther' got a welcome update of late when it was announced that two very impressive cast members will be joining the movie sequel to the hit TV series.
Idris Elba plays the titular character - full name DCI John Luther - on the BBC show, which ran for five series and aired between 2010 and 2019.
It's the actor's most popular role, and it earned him Critics Choice, Golden Globes and SAG awards as well as Emmy nominations.
Netflix is backing the movie spin-off, which will pick up from where the last season ended.
Neil Cross, who created and wrote the series, is penning the script for it.
Jamie Payne, who directed the last season that consisted of four episodes and whose credits include shows such as 'The Alienist' and 'Outlander', is helming the feature.
Aside from Elba, Andy Serkis and Cynthia Ervio will also star in the feature.
Serkis is said to be playing the story's criminal villain - which is great casting if his previous roles like Gollum in 'Lord of the Rings' and Supreme Leader Snoke in 'Star Wars' are anything to go by.
Cythia Ervio, whose past credits include 'Harriet', 'Widows' and 'Genius: Aretha', is playing a detective who is also a nemesis to Luther.
The movie begins shooting November. Keep an eye on site for more updates.
