"I was already in discussions about something Star Wars-affiliated"
We'd watch Lucy Lawless paint a wall if it was in the 'Star Wars' universe.
It turns out that Gina Carano being fired from 'The Mandalorian' upset Lucy Lawless' chances at entering the 'Star Wars' universe, and words cannot describe how upset we feel.
According to the 'Xena: Warrior Princess actor, a fan petition which made the rounds online last year veto-ed the early plans she had in place with Disney and Lucasfilm.
Following Carano's departure from Disney+'s 'The Mandalorian' (due to her abhorrent remarks online towards transgender people and other political statements), fans online began a petition for Lawless to take over the role of Cara Dune, replacing the MMA actor.
However, unbeknownst to fans, Lucy Lawless was already in discussions with Disney about another 'Star Wars' role. According to an interview with Metro, Lawless is sadly no longer up for the role, because it would feel like the studio was giving into the fans.
She said: "Well to be honest with you, I was already in discussions about something on — it wasn’t ‘The Mandalorian’ — something Star Wars-affiliated.
"[The fan campaign] might have hurt me in some way, because then [Lucasfilm] couldn’t hire me because it would seem to be pandering to… I’m just guessing here, I don’t know anything, but in some ways, it can be unhelpful, because if they pander to this fan group, then how are you going to pander to every other fan group, do you know what I mean?
"But that’s the way the world is and they meant it out of love, and I thank the fans for their fealty to me. I haven’t thought about that since, so it hasn’t given me any pain, but that was my thought at the time, like, ooh, this makes me look like a political appointment, and not an actress."
To quote Darth Vader: "NoooOOoOooooooOOO."
'The Mandalorian' will return for its third season in 2022, which will "phase out" the character of Cara Dune instead of replacing her. The first spin-off series, 'The Book of Boba Fett', hits Disney+ on December 29, 2021.
