History in the making

Star of 'Squid Game' Lee Jung-jae made history last night after he won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

The South Korean actor's win makes him the first winner in the category to come from a non-English show.

He is also the first Asian man to take home the award, making history on two different fronts.

He beat out fellow nominees Bob Odenkirk for 'Better Call Saul', Jason Bateman for 'Ozark', Jeremy Strong for 'Succession', Adam Scott for 'Severance', and Brian Cox for 'Succession'.

"First I'd like to thank God above," Lee said in his acceptance speech. "Thank you to the Television Academy, thank you to Netflix. Thank you to Director Hwang [Dong-hyuk] for making realistic problems we all face come to life so creatively and with a great script and amazing visuals." He then continued his speech in Korean to thank the rest of the 'Squid Game' team.

Earlier in the night, Hwang won Outstanding Directing For a Drama Series.

Last week it was announced that Lee will star in the upcoming 'Star Wars' series 'The Acolyte'.

The 'Squid Game' star, who plays Seong Gi-hun on the popular Netflix series will star in his first major English-language role in the upcoming Disney+ series.

Jung-jae will also reprise his role in the upcoming second season of 'Squid Game'. Netflix officially announced the show's renewal in June.
