It's the latest series to get the Netflix chop
Despite its short and easy-watch nature, the series created by the Canadian comedian failed to get the Netflix approval for a second series.
Another quality Netflix series bites the dust. Despite positive reviews and a short series run, 'The Duchess' has been cancelled by the streaming giant.
Canadian comedian Katherine Ryan, who lives in the UK, created, wrote and starred in the six-episode series. Inspired by her real-life, 'The Duchess' saw her play a single mom who lives a hectic London lifestyle, juggling her job, raising her daughter, dealing with new and old love interests, as well as planning for her future.
On the whole, it wasn't a groundbreaking comedy, but it was quite an enjoyable watch. We said of the series: "It has it's flaws certainly, but there are plenty of fun and funny moments in there."
Katherine Ryan revealed 'The Duchess' cancellation on Vicky Pattison’s podcast. She said that the series wasn't viewed enough times within the first month to warrant a follow-up: "[Netflix] didn’t want to make any more, not enough people watched it. I think something like 10 million people watched it in 28 days and that wasn’t enough.
"But also, I’m not terribly sad about it. I feel like it’s a whole lot of work, a whole lot of time to make a sitcom. I was so grateful to able to make it, but I think it speaks for itself. I kind of like the way it ended."
Katherine isn't giving up on streaming just yet, however, as she's got a new Amazon Prime series in the works. 'Backstage with Katherine Ryan' is in development, which is expected to be a new comedy/reality show.
