The 'Barbie' director will adapt C.S. Lewis's stories for the streamer

There has been a multitude of 'Chronicles of Narnia' adaptations over the years, some of them more successful (and more memorable) than others.

It seems that the 'Narnia' adaptations have been in the works at Netflix for several years, with the streaming giant revealing its plans to adapt Lewis's novels for the small screen.

They said in a statement in 2018: "Under the terms of a multi-year deal between Netflix and The C.S. Lewis Company, Netflix will develop classic stories from across the Narnia universe into series and films for its members worldwide."

Now, the New Yorker has revealed that Gerwig will write and direct "at least two films" in the series.

Gerwig herself has not elaborated on the deal, but it sounds like things are moving in the right direction.

Of the seven novels in the series - which was written by the Belfast-born author from 1950 - 1956 - only four have been adapted for film or TV. The final three, ('The Horse and His Boy', 'The Magician’s Nephew' and 'The Last Battle') have never been adapted.
