It's also David Lynch's 74th birthday, so good for him.
As far as birthday presents go, it normally tracks that you present a birthday present to someone, not the other way around.
Of course, David Lynch has never been one to do things in a way that could be called conventional. In fact, he's the very opposite of conventional and his latest short film, 'What Did Jack Do?', landed on Netflix today.
What's it about, you may ask? Well, it's a 17-minute black and white film where David Lynch interviews a capuchin monkey that's murdered someone and is voiced by someone credited as Jack Cruz - IMDb has no record of them, so who knows? As you'd expect from a short film made by current-era David Lynch, it's surreal and there's no easy answers with it.
The short film apparently is a couple of years old, first premiering in 2017 and screened at David Lynch's Festival of Disruption in New York. More interestingly, however, is the talk that this is the first move by Netflix to try and bring David Lynch into the fold. For some time now, there's been talk that Netflix has been talking to the legendary director and about potentially producing one of his movies, or even (whisper it) making another season of 'Twin Peaks'.
The whole thing is up on Netflix right now, if you want to try and wrap your brain around it.
