'3 Body Problem' has two 'GOT' alums attached
The Netflix series will star at least a dozen established and up-and-coming actors from the 'Game of Thrones' showrunners.
Netflix's David Benioff and Dan Weiss sci-fi production '3 Body Problems' has cast a dozen of its main actors.
The series will be based on the renowned trilogy of Chinese books by Liu Cixin, which explores what could happen when humanity discovers we are not the only living race in the universe. The English translation of the books was written Ken Liu, which saw the series become a worldwide bestseller.
The full cast list is as follows: 'Game of Thrones' alums Liam Cunningham and John Bradley (who played Davis Seaworth and Samwell Tarly, respectively); Benedict Wong ('Doctor Strange'); Jovan Adepo ('Watchmen'); Tsai Chin ('Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings'); Eiza González ('Baby Driver'); Marlo Kelly ('Dare Me'); Alex Sharp ('The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time'); Saamer Usmani ('Succession'); Jess Hong ('Inked'); Sea Shimooka ('Arrow'); and Zine Tseng in her debut series.
David Benioff and Dan Weiss co-created the series with Alexander Woo ('The Terror: Infamy'), who will also act as executive producer and writer. 'Knives Out' director Rian Johnson is also an executive producer alongside Bernadette Caulfield from 'Game of Thrones', and Rosamund Pike ('Gone Girl').
'3 Body Problem' will be the 'GOT' showrunners first project since that disastrous eighth and final season of the HBO fantasy series. Here's hoping that the creative team have enough here to make us all forget about that questionable ending.
However, this isn't the first time that the Chinese book series has been adapted. An unreleased 3D film was created in 2015 by YooZoo Film, but due to the reported bad quality of the $30 million production, it was postponed indefinitely.
Another bizarre and unfortunate report from Variety last December details of Lin Qi, an executive producer on this Netflix project, who was deliberately poisoned by a colleague. The producer was murdered by an apparent "jealous" junior employee.
No release date has been announced for '3 Body Problem'.
