She's got big shoes to fill
The upcoming Netflix spin-off series centering on The Addams Family's Wednesday has added an A-list star to the cast.
Catherine Zeta-Jones will play Morticia in the upcoming Tim Burton series following the presumedly dour life of Wednesday Addams.
'Wednesday' has been given an eight-episode season order at Netflix, and will see Zeta-Jones join the already cast Jenna Ortega ('Yes Day') who will play the central role of the character with the trademark braided pigtails, while Luis Guzmán ('Narcos') will play the business tycoon and expert dueller, Gomez Addams.
Catherine Zeta-Jones stepping into the role of Morticia will see her take on the live-action version of the character for the first time since Anjelica Huston's iconic role of the matriarch (not forgetting Carolyn Jones, Daryl Hannah and Ellie Harvie's versions also - Charlize Theron also offered up her voice for the character in the latest movie animation).
Huston received Golden Globe nominations for her portrayal of the witch-like woman in 'The Addams Family' and 'The Addams Family Values' during the '90s, so all eyes will firmly be on this new take of the sultry siren.
Zeta-Jones will be a guest star on the series, which will be a coming-of-age supernatural story about the most intelligent member of The Addams Family - a 13-year-old who also happens to be obsessed with death. She will be a student attending Nevermore Academy while she attempts to get a hold of her emerging psychic ability and solve a mystery that her parents were accused of 25 years previously.
'Wednesday' will mark Tim Burton's return to television, having been solely in the movie business for the past 20 years or so. With the likes of 'Beetlejuice', 'Edward Scissorhands', and 'Sleepy Hollow' under his belt, the director should be able to nail the creepy and the spooky supernatural elements of the series with that Tim Burton flair he's been known for.
Expect more details about 'Wednesday' in the near future.
