"Two experts deem it 100% a forgery."
Months after Netflix's 'Tiger King' saga engulfed our lives, there's been a brand new twist added to the plot post-documentary that blows one aspect of the mini-series wide open once again.
If you'll remember while watching on Netflix, Joe Exotic's biggest tiger rival Carole Baskin had a mysterious air about her concerning her ex-husband. Don Lewis disappeared under unknown circumstances in 1997, and his will which was unearthed allegedly cut out his family, leaving his wife with all of his riches and assets. New information in the case now reveals that the will of Carole Baskin's missing husband was forged.
The news comes from a Hillsborough County sheriff in Florida, Chad Chronister, who has been involved in the investigation of Don Lewis. According to Entertainment Weekly, sheriff Chronister said his suspicions have been confirmed: "They called in some experts to say that the will was a forgery and I had already told them that two months ago. They had two experts deem it 100% a forgery."
A previous report from the Clarion-Ledger newspaper said that the notary listed on the will and power of attorney conveniently did not remember authenticating any documents, and that two handwriting experts had deemed Lewis' signature was "traced" from another document.
However, even though Lewis' will has been confirmed to be a forgery, the statute of limitations had expired, meaning that criminal charges cannot be filed for a fraudulent will.
In the case of Carole Baskin's missing husband and his whereabouts however, this matter still remains open with police. Chronister told a news outlet that "investigators have some great leads" in the hope that "something pans out."
Baskin has repeatedly denied having any involvement in Lewis' disappearance, and wrote in a statement following the arrival of the Netflix documentary series: "I never threatened him and I certainly had nothing to do with his disappearance. When he disappeared, I did everything I could to assist the police. I encouraged them to check out the rumours from Costa Rica, and separately I hired a private investigator."
In recent news surrounding the controversial documentary series, Baskin has taken over control of Joe Exotic's former zoo while the man in question remains in prison for attempting to have his number one adversary assasinated.
