The life and death of the star will be put under the spotlight
The shocking death of one of Hollywood's rising stars will be one of the main focuses of the new documentary.
A Brittany Murphy HBO documentary is in the pipeline, aiming to focus on the life and mysterious death of the young Hollywood star.
Murphy died suddenly on December 20, 2009 at the age of 32. She was found dead in the bathroom of her Hollywood Hills mansion, with no illegal substances found in her system. The autopsy on her body found that a number of factors led to her death, including pneumonia and anemia.
Murphy's sudden death lead to conspiracy theories, with many suspecting foul play. Five months after her death, her husband Simon Monjack also died in their home, also under mysterious circumstances.
The Brittany Murphy HBO documentary will tell the untold story of her life, as well as investigating her inexplicable death. HBO Max has ordered a two-part documentary around the subject, promising to be "an in-depth, intimate character portrait" of the actor. The project will be directed by Cynthia Hill and co-produced by Blumhouse Television and Pyramid Productions, and will feature archival footage of the star, and interviews with her friends and family.
HBO Max executive vice president Jennifer O’Connell said of the streamer's upcoming documentary: "Our Brittany Murphy documentary cuts through the tabloid noise with an elevated, nuanced depiction of a sensational story.
"Crafting a grounded account of Brittany Murphy’s life struggles and sudden passing comes with great responsibility and we’ve partnered with a masterful creative team to produce a thoughtful examination of a tragedy that has long been cause for speculation."
Murphy had a number of high-profile acting roles throughout her career. Some notable roles included starring in 'Sister, Sister', 'Girl, Interrupted', 'Sin City' and '8 Mile'. Her most famous role was as new student Tai in 'Clueless' opposite Alicia Silverstone and Stacey Dash. She had also started a music career with the track 'Faster Kill Pussycat' being her most famous release.
No title or release date has yet been set for the project. With the documentary being a HBO Max exclusive over in the States, expect it to launch over this side of the Atlantic on Sky Documentaries and NOW.
