Will she be a Christmas Witch?
Thank you, Marvel, for casting an actual witch in a series about witches.
Aubrey Plaza has officially been inducted into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we can't wait to see what treachery she brings to the madness.
The actor, known for pretending to be a real-life witch both in her acting roles (April Ludgate of 'Parks and Recreation' said she convinces small children she's a witch) and in her real life (she has two children's books out about a Christmas Witch), has been cast in 'Agatha: Coven of Chaos' - which is all about witches. Well, fancy that, give the casting director a raise, good sir!
The genius casting will see her join Kathryn Hahn's fan-favourite character in a sequel/prequel series about Agatha Harkness, who was revealed to be the villain of 'WandaVision' all along, hoodwinking Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda into believing she was hypnotizing all of Westview.
Plaza will also be joined by 'Heartstopper' star Joe Locke, who was revealed to be joining the cast of the Disney+ series earlier this week. Emma Caulfield Ford will also reprise her 'WandaVision' role as Westview neighbour Dottie.
As you might imagine, the Aubrey Plaza role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is being kept under wraps for now, but if she doesn't play some form of a witch in the franchise, we'll be perpetually disappointed. After all, it's been ingrained in us since 'Parks and Recreation' days that Plaza was born to play a witchy entity.
Now, this isn't the first time that Plaza will be part of the Marvel universe. She previously played a troubled addict in FX's 'Legion' TV series, which is based within the X-Men franchise. Available to stream via Disney+, and starring Dan Stevens, Rachel Keller, Jemaine Clement and Jean Smart, it was the first time we got to see a true villainous side to Plaza.
Aubrey Plaza is currently starring in 'The White Lotus' season two, and has starred in a long line of other impressive movies from the past few years including 'Black Bear', 'The Little Hours' and this year's 'Emily the Criminal'. Should Elizabeth Olsen show up in 'Agatha: Coven of Chaos', it'll see her star opposite her 'Ingrid Goes West' co-star. Kathryn Hahn also starred in 'Parks and Rec' with Plaza, when she played political strategist Jen Barkley.
'Agatha: Coven of Chaos' is expected to debut on Disney+ in late 2023.
