The film is set for a more secure streaming release
'Deep Water' hasn't vanished below the surface just yet, as many feared last week when it was removed from Disney's calendar.
According to Deadline, the erotic thriller, directed by Adrian Lyne will be given to Hulu for North America. Amazon will stream overseas.
'Deep Water' is based on a book by the same name, written by Patricia Highsmith. The film follows a married couple who have fallen out of love with each other. They begin playing deadly mind games against one another that begin seeing those around them dying.
The couple staves off divorce in a loveless marriage by allowing each to take lovers, but it becomes messy as Highsmith exposed the surface façade of American suburban life.
It will be Lyne's first film in nearly twenty years, since 2002's 'Unfaithful'. He was Oscar nominated in 1988 for Best Director for Paramount’s 'Fatal Attraction' starring Glenn Close and Michael Douglas.
The reason behind the film being sent to streaming is the state of theatrical releases at the moment due to the pandemic. Steven Spielberg's 'West Side Story' flopped at the box office despite good reviews, landing just $10.5 million in its opening week.
Fans will be interested to see both de Armas and Affleck star side by side, after their relationship went very public throughout lockdown. They have since parted ways.
