The ceremony takes place in London tonight - here's all you need to know

It's that time of year again – the BRIT Awards are taking place tonight at London's O2 Arena.

If you're wondering what time it's on, who's playing live and who's up for the big gongs, wonder no more. Below, you'll find a handy guide to answer all the questions you need to know about this year's event.

What time and station is it on TV? It's live tonight (Tuesday, February 18th) from 8pm to 10pm on Virgin Media Three. You can also watch a livestream of the ceremony via YouTube (above).

Who's presenting it? Comedian Jack Whitehall returns as presenter for the third year running. Expect more awkward banter as he mooches around the celeb tables.

What about the red carpet pre-show? For the first time, app Tik-Tok is partnering with the BRITs to livestream the red carpet from 5.30pm. Lewis Capaldi will also do a special red carpet performance, as well as perform at the main event.

What's the big deal with this year's ceremony? It's the 40th BRIT Awards, and as well as the 'classic' statuette returning after nine years of redesigns, things have been streamlined this year. Instead of 13 awards, there'll be 9; 'Outstanding Contribution' and 'Global Success' have been done away with, as well as 'International Group' and 'Best British Video'.

Who's playing live? The live line-up for 2020 includes Billie Eilish performing the new Bond theme 'No Time to Die', with composer Hans Zimmer and guitar hero Johnny Marr. Rapper Dave will also perform, as will Harry Styles, Lizzo, Celeste, Lewis Capaldi, Stormzy and Mabel. Rod Stewart will close the show, performing with Ronnie Wood and Small Faces drummer Kenney Jones.

Are there any Irish artists up for awards? Yes! Our own Dermot Kennedy is in the running for 'International Male', as you'll see below. C'mon Ireland.

Who else is nominated for an award? Dave and Lewis Capaldi lead the charge with four nominations apiece. See below for the full list of nominees (our predictions for the winner are marked with an asterisk):

What's the story with the 'Rising Star' award? That's what used to be called the 'Critics' Choice Award'. This year, that's soul artist Celeste; she'll perform live tonight, too (the recipient of that award previously only performed at the nomination ceremony).

Who decides the winners of each category? Much like the Oscars, voting is cast via the Brit Awards' academy, which is comprised of over 1000 members - members of record labels, publishers, managers, agents, media, and previous winners and nominees. The public could previous vote on two categories ('British Video' and 'British Breakthrough Act'), but as mentioned above, they have been abolished.

So, when is it on again? 8pm tonight, Virgin Media Three! Set your reminder now.
