Born and bred in Minnesota, it's no surprise that Prince was a fan of the state's NFL team the Minnesota Vikings; he even wrote a fight song for them called 'Purple & Gold' back in 2010.
On Sunday night, at the half-time segment of their first game of the season, the team staged an epic tribute to Prince involving members of his band The New Power Generation, the Minnesota Orchestra and The Steeles, who played 'Purple Rain' as the stadium was bathed in purple light.
In a strange coincidence, Pitchfork also report that the first touchdown of the game came after a play by the opposing team's players Aaron Rodgers and Jordy Nelson; Prince's full name, of course, was Prince Rogers Nelson. Ooooh.
