Given his involvement in politics and his tendency to make his opinion known on such matters, it was only a matter of time before Bono made a comment on the forthcoming US presidential election.
He also made it clear which way he'd be voting if he had the chance - and it wouldn't be for Donald Trump.
The U2 frontman appeared on Charlie Rose's CBS show to discuss how great he thought America was, but how bad for the country that he thinks Trump would be.
"Look, America is like the best idea the world ever came up with,” he said. "but Donald Trump is potentially the worst idea that ever happened to America. Potentially.”
He also discussed the impact that Trump's presidency could have on the wider world.
"It could destroy it because of what we’re saying, because America’s not just a country. Ireland is a nice country," he said. "Great Britain is a great country — all the rest of it. [But] it’s not an idea. America is an idea, and that idea is bound up in justice and equality for all."
He went on to say that he had nothing against the Republican Party, and that some of his best friends were Republicans, but "I think he’s hijacked the party. I think he’s trying to hijack the idea of America. And I think it’s bigger than all of us. I think it’s... this is really dangerous.
"Wise people of conscience should not let this man turn your country into a casino."
