'Stand and Deliver' was written by Morrison and is sung by Clapton
Van Morrison has made his stance on the coronavirus and the lockdowns associated with it very clear in recent months.
The Northern Irish musician released several 'anti-lockdown' songs earlier this year and has very publicly denounced the measures undertaken by governments to keep people safe, because he wants to play large-scale gigs again.
Now, he's enlisted his fellow musician Eric Clapton for his latest dispatch to the world.
'Stand and Deliver' was written by Morrison and sees Clapton singing lines like "“Do you wanna be a free man/ Or do you wanna be a slave?” and "Is this a sovereign nation/ Or just a police state?/ You better look out people/ Before it gets too late", as well as "I don't wanna be a pauper and I don't wanna be a prince / I just wanna do my job, playing the blues for my friends."
If there's one saving grace to the song, it's that Morrison is donating proceeds from it to his Lockdown Financial Hardship Fund, which aids musicians affected by the crisis. Despite that admirable fact... it's a no from us.
