New York indie rockers Vampire Weekend are set to release their second album entitled Contra worldwide on 12th January. Apparently concerned that the album has yet to leak online, the band have released a stream of their hotly anticipated sophomore effort which you can listen to below.
It is becoming something of a trend for bands to take this same course of releasing music early for free online, recognising the part that online music sharing has played in recent years of lending weight to pre-release hype. Bands like Radiohead and Them Crooked Vultures have taken similar routes, preferring to control the leak of their music instead of the inevitable and eventual posting of their music on file sharing websites.
