Bono and co.'s 1991 album 'Achtung Baby' will receive the award at Vicar Street
There's just two weeks to go until the Choice Music Prize takes place at Vicar Street, but not every announcement is being held back until the night.
Today has seen the announcement of the 'Classic Irish Album' award - which the late Sinead O'Connor received last year for her album 'I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got'.
O'Connor was the inaugural recipient and now it has been revealed that U2 will receive this year's award for their 1991 album 'Achtung Baby'.
Although the announcement has been made today, the award will be handed over on the night during the live ceremony - although it's not yet clear whether any members of the band will be in attendance. Their residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas finishes on March 2nd.
The live ceremony will take place at Vicar Street on March 7th, with other awards on the night including those for Irish Album of the Year 2023, Irish Breakthrough Artist and Irish Artist of the Year. The Irish Song of the Year 2023 award will be announced on 2FM earlier that day, and awarded at the live show.
All tickets for the show, which will see seven of the ten acts nominated for Irish Album of the Year perform live, are sold out - but the ceremony will be broadcast live on the night on 2FM.
