The iconic rock guitarist took ill suddenly

One of rock music's most enduring figures, Jeff Beck, has sadly passed away.

The guitarist, known for his work with bands like The Yardbirds and later as the frontman of his own band, The Jeff Beck Group, died in a hospital near his East Sussex home on Tuesday, after contracting bacterial meningitis. He was 78.

Beck's most recent release was '18', a collaborative album released with Johnny Depp last year. Over the course of his lengthy career he had collaborated with a huge and diverse number of musicians, including Brian Wilson, Herbie Hancock, Roger Waters, Morrissey, Seal, Jon Bon Jovi and many more. He was regularly cited as one of the greatest guitarists of his generation.

Tributes to Beck have been pouring in from many friends and fans, including his former bandmate Rod Stewart, Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood, and Kinks guitarist Dave Davies - some of which you can see below:
