We still have a lot of love for Katy Perry's left shark
Super Bowl LIII is taking place tonight, and sees the Los Angeles Rams take on the New England Patriots. Maroon 5 will take to the stage later tonight in Atlanta, Georgia, with Travis Scott and OutKast's Big Boi as musical guests. In anticipation of the show, here are our top 5 favourite moments from Super Bowl halftime shows of the past.
5. Beyoncé ft. Destiny's Child throwback
Whenever Beyoncé performs, you just know it's going to be one hell of a spectacle. 2013's halftime show proved no different, with Queen Bey securing appearances from her old bandmates, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams to reform Destiny's Child for one night only.
4. Prince ft. pouring rain
Ahem... That's pouring rain, not 'Purple Rain.' Described as a scene from 'Moby Dick,' Prince took to the waterlogged stage in Florida during the halftime show in 2007. Owning it all on his own with no guest performers making an appearance, the late singer gave a stellar performance using no less than four different guitars.
3. Katy Perry ft. left shark
Katy Perry's performance at the 2015 Super Bowl featured heavy-hitters Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott. While all three gave impressive performances, the show was stolen by Perry's left shark dancer. Seemingly making up the moves as he went, the dancer became a huge meme, and was everyone's favourite underdog of 2015. You can enjoy left shark making an entrance around the 5 minute mark in the performance below.
2. Madonna ft. M.I.A.'s middle finger
Madonna took to the stage in 2012 with an absolute heap of guest performers. Cee Lo Green, LMFAO, and Nicki Minaj all made an appearance - but it was English rapper M.I.A.'s presence that stole the show. Apparently, the rapper had been explicitly told do not do it, and her response was... to flip it anyway. Please enjoy reliving that moment below (which happens at about 8 minutes in).
1. Janet Jackson ft. nip slip
Never fear, the internet still provides the video of that moment. After his appearance on stage with Jackson, Justin Timberlake playfully runs after the singer while serenading her with 'Rock Your Body.' Then all hell broke loose as the lights went down. Relive that iconic moment again below.
*Honourable Mention* Lady Gaga ft. jumping from the sky
