The official coroner's report from the passing of Tom Petty was issued late last night, and details what ended the famous singer's life.

According to the autopsy, Petty's system was found to have traces of fentanyl, oxycodone, temazepam, alprazolam, citalopram, acetyl fentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl. Petty, who was 66 at the time of his passing, was on a number of pain medications according to a statement released by his daughter.

"On the day he died he was informed his hip had graduated to a full on break and it is our feeling that the pain was simply unbearable and was the cause for his over use of medication," read the statement.

"We knew before the report was shared with us that he was prescribed various pain medications for a multitude of issues including Fentanyl patches and we feel confident that this was, as the coroner found, an unfortunate accident."

Fentanyl was one of the drugs found in Prince's system after his passing in 2016. The synthetic opiate is understood to be 50 times more powerful than heroin, and is currently at the centre of a health crisis in the US.
