There have been a number of one-hit wonders that have taken the world by storm. One such song was released in the summer of 2002.

The Ketchup Song, also known as ‘Asereje’, by Las Ketchup, may have been in Spanish but that didn’t stop people from attempting to sing along with it and mimic that simple yet effective choreography.

Recently, thanks to a twitter thread from @Kueaff aka milky silver chance, a whole new dimension to the song has come to light.

@Kueaff explains that contrary to popular belief, the song Asereje does make sense and he is going to explain it. @Kueaff points out the song starts out talking about a guy named Diego and that he is the story’s main character.

 

Then the lyrics say "with the moon in his pupils, and leftover contraband on his blue suit," meaning Diego was high on something. He goes to the club because he loves the music and loves to dance. The DJ there knows him and plays his favourite song.

 

 

And THIS is the part where your brain explodes, because he dances and he siiiiiiiings to Rapper's Delight by The Sugarhill Gang.

 The translation was lost on Spanish speakers as well as English because many people in Spain and Latin America hadn’t heard of Rapper's Delight, so there you go.
