The original, and best, Christmas songs
We've already asked you to vote for your favourite Christmas song, and now we're going to pay homage to the best original Christmas songs out there. Pump up the volume, and let the festive times roll.
Chris Rea - 'Driving Home For Christmas'
There's no better feeling than when you're actually driving home for Christmas, and this comes on the radio. It's so perfect it would almost bring a tear to the eye.
Charles Brown - 'Please Come Home For Christmas'
A slow one, but none-the-less an iconic Christmas tune, especially for all those 'Home Alone' fans out there.
Wham! - 'Last Christmas'
The music video for 'Last Christmas' is so gloriously cheesy and full of 80's hair that every year we can't get enough of it. Last year, fans in the UK were so close to getting the single to Christmas number one in honour of George Michael, that a new campaign has started again in 2018.
Mariah Carey - 'All I Want For Christmas Is You'
Do people actually, genuinely, ever get sick of hearing this song? It only comes around once a year, and it's in 'Love Actually' so yeah, get over it, it's here to stay.
Band Aid - 'Do They Know Its Christmas?'
Forget the rehashes (both of them!) because the 1984 single is the best, and only one worth listening to. Yes, they're all in aid of charity, which is amazing, but there's nothing better than hearing Bono singing with Boy George, Bananarama, and many other stars of the 80's.
Nat King Cole - 'The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas To You)'
Surprisingly, 'The Christmas Song' is one of the only songs on our list that wasn't actually written by its performer. The song was originally written a year before its release in 1946, by Bob Wells and Mel Tormé during a hot summer, and the thought of Jack Frost spurred them on to write.
The Pogues ft. Kirsty MacColl - 'Fairytale of New York'
To many an Irish person, 'Fairytale of New York' is the pinnacle of Christmas. If you haven't heard it already this year, now's your chance to plunge head first into Christmas, ya maggot.
Judy Garland - 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas'
The musical 'Meet Me in St. Louis' introduced the world to one of the most recognisable Christmas songs that was ever written. Written by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane in 1944, the song went on to be performed, and made more famous, by Frank Sinatra in 1948.
That was just a sample of many original Christmas songs out there - but which one's your favourite? Let us know in the comments.
