It seems that neither band is in a position to be throwing stones, however
It's one thing to be accused of ripping off another band's sound, but what about their artwork?
That's the position that British band The 1975 found themselves in at the weekend, after Maroon 5 took a potshot at the cover of their new single.
It seems that 'Me and You Together Song' bears a striking resemblance to the cover of Kara's Flowers' 'The Fourth Wall', which was released in 1997. Kara's Flowers was the original name of the Adam Levine-led band.
Both sleeves have a similar design, with the four band members pictured in coloured squares.
Maroon 5's official Twitter account made their feelings known in a now-deleted tweet that read: "Hey @the1975, you guys big ‘Kara’s Flowers’ fans?’"
In response, The 1975 frontman Matty Healy dismissed the band with a tweet referencing their song 'Payphone' that has been liked over 63k times.
While Maroon 5 may have a point, others have pointed out that neither band is in a position to be casting judgement...

Actually the first thing I thought of was the poster from the movie 'KIDS'. pic.twitter.com/t7HDFs5NpQ
