The Rolling Stones have signed a new record deal with Universal Records, putting paid to the rumour that they would follow in the footsteps of Jay-Z and Madonna and sign with Live Nation.

The deal , which was described by the label as "exclusive, long-term, worldwide", involves Universal taking control of the rockers' back catalogue, as well as future releases.

The Rolling Stones issued a statement which said: "Universal are forward-thinking, creative, and hands-on music people. We look forward to working with them." (Except Ronnie Wood, who said "Fnaaaaaaaaaaaanrnbrjhrjhjrhjhrjhjrhvgfgcvrv. Sausage.")
