Track off 'Nevermind' has seen rise in popularity after being featured in the latest 'Batman' film
Sales of Nirvana's track 'Something In The Way' has exploded over the last week after being prominently featured in 'The Batman'.
The penultimate track of Nirvana's seminal 1991 album 'Nevermind' is featured prominently in the film and trailer, and fans have flocked to streaming services to listen to the song.
The song is #91 on the Official Irish Singles Charts this week, and the track has seen a 1500% increase in sales in the United States after the film's release.
Spotify has reported a 1200% increase in streams on the song since the film released in early March, and the track is on course to crack the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, over 30 years after the song's original release.
At time of writing, the song is also tipped to appear in the Official Singles Charts in the UK, and the song is on tap to crack the top 40 on the Billboard's Global 200 songs, a chart of the 200 biggest songs in the world.
Director Matt Reeves has credited the song with helping capture his moody take on the iconic superhero, with the director saying in December 2021 that star Robert Pattinson "had that Kurt Cobain thing, where he looks like a rock star, but you also feel like he could be a recluse.”
The track came to mind when Reeves was writing the film, saying "rather than make Bruce the playboy version we’ve seen before, there’s another version who had gone through a great tragedy and become a recluse."
"I started making this connection to Gus Van Sant’s film 'Last Day' and the idea of this fictionalised version of Kurt Cobain being in this kind of decaying manor.”
Connecting the dots between Bruce Wayne and Kurt Cobain has worked wonders, with the track now appearing on various Billboard charts.
The song is currently sitting at number 6 on Billboard's Hot Rock and Alternative Songs chart alongside tracks from the likes from Glass Animals and Billie Eilish.
'Nevermind' turned 30 years old last year, and the songs from the album including the mythical 'Smells Like Teen Spirit', 'In Bloom' and 'Come As You Are' saw major streaming boosts as fans marked the 30th anniversary of the landmark album.
At time of writing, 'The Batman' is on course to hit $500 million at the global box office, with strong critical reviews and fan reaction making a sequel almost a certanity.
Hopefully Matt Reeves uses another Nirvana deep-cut in the sequel - maybe he'll put in a track off 'Bleach'?
