'ATUM' will be a sequel to 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness'
Smashing Pumpkins have been quietly putting out new material since getting 3/4ths of the original line-up back together in 2018, but their new album looks set to recapture the grand, sweeping scale that made the band a household name in the 90s.
'ATUM' will be released in three parts, starting from November.
Each act will be released every 11 weeks, with Act 1 releasing on November 15th, Act 2 will be dropping on January 31st and Act 3 will round out the collection on April 21st of next year.
A special edition box set featuring the album’s 33 songs plus 10 additional bonus tracks will also be released on April 21st.
The album is reported to be a follow-up to 1995's seminal classic 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness' and 2000's 'Machina/Machine Of God'.
Frontman Billy Corgan will host a podcast detailing the making of the new album, as well as sharing stories behind the band's collection of iconic hits.
This bold experiment is the group's most ambitious album since 2000's 'Machina/The Machine Of God', the final album prior to their break-up that same year.
The band reunited in 2006, and original guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlain surprisingly rejoined the band in 2018.
Original bassist D'Arcy Wretzky is still the holdout from the original line-up that attained massive global success in the 1990s, with previous attempts to bury the hatchet between Wretzky and Corgan proving unsuccessful.
The album's lead single 'Beguiled' has been released, which gives fans a taste of what to expect from the epic album.
Smashing Pumpkins are touring the United States with fellow rock icons Jane's Addiction to drum up hype for the new album, and we're keeping our fingers crossed for an Irish date in the near future.
