The star-studded event took place in New York

The 38th annual Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony took place in New York in recent days, with some big names sharing the stage - and some absent names in the mix, too.

There was an eclectic mix of musicians amongst this year's inductees, which included Kate Bush, the late George Michael, Chaka Khan, Sheryl Crow, Bernie Taupin, Missy Elliott, The Spinners, Rage Against the Machine and Willie Nelson.

The notoriously publicity-shy Bush was not present at the ceremony at Brooklyn's Barclays Center, but issued a statement that read (in part):

"I’m afraid I won’t be able to attend the ceremony tonight, but for me the real honour is knowing that you felt I deserved it.

The RRHOF has welcomed me into the most extraordinary rostrum of overwhelming talent.

When I was growing up my hero was Elton John. I poured over his music, longed to be able to play piano like him and longed to write songs that could move people in the way his work moved me.

That little girl in South East London could never have dreamed she’d be sharing the event tonight with Bernie Taupin, Elton’s writing partner, an incredible lyricist who inspired me to keep writing songs – to keep trying. Congratulations Bernie! Congratulations to everyone who is being inducted tonight!

Music is at the core of who I am and, like all musicians, being on the journey of trying to create something musically interesting is rife with feelings of doubt and insecurity.

I’m only five foot three, but today I feel a little taller.

Kate"

Rapper Big Boi of OutKast introduced her segment and called himself "the biggest Kate Bush fan", while St. Vincent sang 'Running Up that Hill'. "What I love about Kate’s music is that I never know what sound I’m going to hear next," said Big Boi. "She ignores anything that seems like a formula and instead just does whatever she wants to do, like me."

Sheryl Crow was inducted by Olivia Rodrigo, who sang 'If It Makes You Happy' with her, and she also duetted with Stevie Nicks on 'Strong Enough. Elton John introduced his co-writer Bernie Taupin before singing 'Tiny Dancer'.

Queen Latifah inducted Missy Elliott, who sang several of her own hits including 'Get Ur Freak On'. Maroon 5's Adam Levine paid tribute to George Michael - introduced by his Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgeley - by perfoming his song 'Faith', while Carrie Underwood sang 'One More Try'.

Dave Matthews, Chris Stapleton and Sheryl Crow sang a medley of songs of country icon Willie Nelson. Meanwhile, Tom Morello was the only member of Rage Against the Machine in attendance, as the band members have differing views on being inducted into the Hall.

It was an especially star-studded ceremony, with Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page even turning up to say a few words about honorary inductee Link Wray.
