The Latin pop star has denied the allegations made against him
He was once the hottest pop star on the planet, but Ricky Martin has found himself in global headlines for non-musical reasons in recent days.
The 'Livin' La Vida Loca' singer has reportedly had a restraining order issued against him by a former partner, according to police in his native Puerto Rico - although he has not been charged with any crime.
Police confirmed that a judge had issued a restraining order under Puerto Rico's domestic violence law on Saturday, but reps for Martin denied the claim, describing it as "completely false and fabricated". Authorities had been unable to find the pop singer in his hometown of Dorado to serve him with the order.
According to Puerto Rican newspaper El Vocero, the order was filed by an unnamed former partner of 50-year-old father-of-four Martin. It claimed that they were in a relationship for 7 months and separated 2 months ago, but Martin "does not accept the separation."
"He calls him frequently," the order allegedly reads, according to El Vocero. "In addition, the petitioner has seen him hanging around his residence on at least 3 occasions. The petitioner fears for his safety."
The order expires on July 21st, when the parties involved have been summoned for a hearing.
Representatives for Martin, who married Syrian-Swedish painter Jwan Yosef in 2017 and shares two children with him, said "We are very confident that when the true facts come out in this matter our client Ricky Martin will be fully vindicated."
