'Unlimited Love' is California band's first album since 2016's 'The Getaway'
One of the biggest names in rock music are back.
Red Hot Chili Peppers will release their first album in nearly 6 years this April.
'Unlimited Love' sees the iconic California rockers re-team with producer Rick Rubin, the mastermind behind their hit albums 'Stadium Arcadium', 'Californication' and 'By The Way'.
The new album will release on April 1st, and the album will top out at 73 minutes long with 17 brand-new tracks for fans to get stuck into.
Lead single 'Black Summer' showcases what fans can expect from the album, and in classic RHCP fashion, it boasts a trademark John Frusciante riff and solo.
'Unlimited Love' will be the first album to feature Frusciante on guitar since 2006's 'Stadium Arcadium' after the guitarist sensationally rejoined the band in 2019.
Releasing on April 1st, the band were eager to get back to the recording studio.
The band are the cover stars for the latest issue of NME, and they used their time at home as a result of the pandemic wisely.
Per the article, the band wrote songs while in lockdown, and when it came time to record in early 2021, the band had over 100 songs to choose from.
In a statement, the band said "Our only goal is to get lost in the music. We spent thousands of hours, collectively and individually, honing our craft and showing up for one another, to make the best album we could."
"Our antennae attuned to the divine cosmos, we were just so damn grateful for the opportunity to be in a room together, and, once again, try to get better. Days, weeks and months spent listening to each other, composing, jamming freely, and arranging the fruit of those jams with great care and purpose."
"We yearn to shine a light in the world, to uplift, connect, and bring people together. Each of the songs on our new album is a facet of us, reflecting our view of the universe. "
Frusciante added, "the feeling of effortless fun we had when we were playing songs by other people, stayed with us the whole time we were writing."
"For me, this record represents our love for, and faith in each other."
Rubin shared his views on the guitarist's return on a recent podcast interview, saying "I was invited to the first rehearsal after John rejoined and it made me cry."
"It was so thrilling to see that group of people back together because they made such great music for so long and it really hit me in an emotional way.”
Red Hot Chlli Peppers are one of the biggest acts in rock music history, and the California group will headline an Irish tour date this summer.
The band will play Dublin's Marlay Park in June, with R&B star Anderson .Paak serving as the support act.
Their 2003 concert at Slane Castle is often regarded as one of the finest-ever concerts to take place at the hallowed music venue, with frontman Anthony Kledis often saying the band would love to headline the iconic venue again.
