Sony and its subsidiary, RCA Records, have dropped R. Kelly from their roster.
After a number of singers who collaborated with R. Kelly removed their songs from streaming services, major label Sony has parted ways with the singer-rapper.
Billboard revealed that R. Kelly has now been removed from the RCA Records website, but has yet to make any comment on the news. RCA Records is a subsidiary of Sony, which R. Kelly has been attached to since 2012. It's understood that R. Kelly's catalog stays with RCA Records, however no new music from him will be distributed by the label.
Since the airing of 'Surviving R. Kelly', in which numerous allegations of abuse were made by women, several prominent musicians have come forward to apologise for working with R. Kelly. Lady Gaga had her song, 'Do What U Want', removed from streaming services in light of the documentary series.
On top of this, campaigners and activists have repeatedly contact radio stations in the US such as IHeartRadio to have R. Kelly removed from their playlists. The #MuteRKelly campaign has been effective, as a number of radio programs have specifically stated they'll no longer broadcast the singer-rapper's music.
R. Kelly has repeatedly denied the claims made in the 'Surviving R. Kelly' documentary series.
