They first formed in a Tipperary garage in 2012, and five years later The Winter Passing are steadily gaining momentum as they're about to release their new EP.

Now based in Dublin, the indie-rock quartet have already picked up buzz from several UK media outlets and their latest release, 'Double Exposure', is out this Friday.

Ahead of their gig at Whelan's on April 29th, we asked Kate Flynn from the band to answer entertainment.ie's Big Questions.

What’s the music that you listened to growing up, that you still listen to today?
When I was really young I was listening to Britney Spears and Avril Lavigne. I still listen to them. Then later on it was Jimmy Eat World, Sleater-Kinney and The Distillers which are all bands I still jam to.

When did you first realise you wanted a career in music?
From the day my dad brought me home a Britney Spears video tape.  My views on how I would want a career have changed, I guess - but Britney forever.

In three words, describe the minute before you walk on stage.
Exciting, buzzing, nervous.

How do you wind down after a gig?
I usually just go to our part of the merch stand and enjoy the other bands.

What’s the one song you wish you’d written or recorded first?
Jimmy Eat World – Closer.

What song of yours are you most proud of?
I'm proud of them all really but I guess "Escapism", because it took a lot to write it.

What’s your favourite venue to perform in?
I've always really enjoyed playing Fibbers in Dublin. I made friends with the sound guy there and it's always a real treat to see him. We've played some of our most memorable gigs there.

Your best and worst gig so far?
Our best gig, in my opinion, was our record release for A Different Space of Mind. I genuinely couldn't believe how many people came to that show. I was smiling for days after. Our worst gig was in Wolverhampton on our run with Moose Blood last year because sexism is a real pressing issue in that place.

Whose career do you envy, and why?
I don't really "envy" anyone's career.

Vinyl or digital downloads?
Digital. I don't have a record player but I do enjoy picking up the odd vinyl here and there.

Give your thoughts on Spotify in three words.
Handy but exploitative.

You can only have three albums on your phone/in your house at any one time - what three would you pick for today?
Today I would probably choose Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz! , Interpol - Turn on The Bright Lights and lastly Joyce Manor - Never Hungover Again.

Name one piece of music memorabilia that you wish you owned.
Anything that Debbie Harry wore.

Name one record, one book and one film that everyone should hear / read / see.
Record: Can you Deal? - Bleached. Film: 20th Century Women. Book: Girl in a Band - Kim Gordon.

Pick the director and lead actor(s) for a biopic about your life.
Director - M. Night Shyamalan, because for so many reasons my life is a contemporary supernatural plot line. Actor - Kristen Stewart, because Kristen Stewart.

You’re ordering take-away, what do you get?
Lately, a 3 in 1 from the Chinese. Rice, noodles and curry sauce.

You’ve been given €100,000 to spend, but only 1 hour to spend it. What do you buy?
An hour? Yikes. I'd probably break the record for most online shopping done in one hour (there is probably a record for that). Three things I'd definitely be purchasing / giving in that hour would be music gear that I've always wanted, a holiday to Japan and donate some money online to a deserving charity or project.

Describe your perfect day off.
Get up, have coffee while watching Gilmore Girls in my PJs. Do a face mask. Read a book. Play some music. Go for a walk in woods and dust off cobwebs with nature.

Tell us why we should listen to your new EP.
In my opinion, it's our best work to date. If you're looking for sad songs to happy music - here it is.
We put a lot of sweat, blood and tears (many tears) into making this.
