Tributes to her have been flooding in since the news broke
Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott's mother Philomena has died. She was 88.
The Crumlin native gave birth to the Irish rock icon in West Bromwich when she was 18. From the age of 8 he was raised by her parents in Dublin before going on to form Thin Lizzy in 1969.
Philomena Lynott, who wrote about her relationship with her son in her 1995 memoir 'My Boy', had been battling cancer in recent years.
Thin Lizzy fans have been paying tribute to her on social media:
R.I.P Philomena Lynott.
A gracious and graceful guardian of the flame but a remarkable woman in her own right too.
Take a few to read this beautifully told tale from Allan Jones about a visit to her legendary 'Showbiz Hotel' in Manchester.
She was such a beautiful character. pic.twitter.com/O91eeSUoicβ π» ED SMITH π» (@EdSmithington) June 12, 2019

Philomena Lynott. I recall her tuning in to FM104 from time to time when I worked there, and contacting us to say thanks when we played her sonβs songs. A bizarre memory to pop into my head just now. May she rest in peace π x pic.twitter.com/m4kQWNToKq

Sad to hear about the passing of Philomena Lynott -- she always struck me as occupying a really important place in Irish life -- championing Irish music via her son's memory, but also representing changing times in Ireland. And endlessly stylish of course. https://t.co/4nww9GGcxx
