The Modfather is coming back to town! Paul Weller, the man who forged his iconic status on the British music scene through time spent in Style Council and The Jam (as well as his extensive solo work), has announced a solo show to take place on the grounds of the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham on 24th June next. Oh, and we have tickets to give away in our Competitions page!
Weller's contribution to the UK music scene has been almost incalculable. Since debuting with The Jam in with 1977's 'In The City', Weller has had a hand in a succession of monster albums including The Jam's 'All Mod Cons', 'Sound Affects' and 'The Gift'. A six year period with Style Council followed The Jam before Weller embarked on a solo career which has seen the Englishman release a further 11 records since 1992 including, most recently, 2011's 'Sonik Kicks'.
To further illustrate Weller's status in the burgeoning UK music scene, he has earned the distinction of being awarded the 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award at the BRITs and then, three years later, the BRIT for Best Male. Not bad for an old man, we' re sure you'll agree.
Support at the Kilmainham gig will be provided by Tom Odell. Tickets will cost you €44.50 and are on sale from 9am this Friday morning.
